Lori's Top 10 Reasons to Homeschool

Updated: Jul 28, 2020

Hi, I am Lori M., a homeschool mother to an 11-year-old daughter and a 9-year-old son. I love homeschooling and it has been a blessing to my family. Of course, there are pros and cons to everything. I hope this is helpful to anyone considering homeschooling. The great thing about our country is that this is our choice to educate our children. If public or private school works best for your child or home education is a better fit, we need to help and encourage each other. We all have this in common, we are parents - the most important job of all! # 10   You Can Teach

You are your child's first teacher and know your child better than anyone! You already have the natural ability to lead and guide them. # 9     More Time!

This is a gift to most families when you start homeschooling. You have more time for everything! There is no more rushing and less stress. Children have more time in their day for schoolwork, activities, & hobbies. # 8       Safety & Security

This is a hard one to address, but in today's world this is our reality. Instead of your child being locked in a school building all day, they are in the safety of the home. (Yes, bad things can happen everywhere.) You choose who they are with and you are in control of their welfare! There is less school drama, stress, and bullying. They have a stronger sense of security and confidence by not dealing with many heavy school issues. # 7    Education Freedom

As a parent you get to create their learning experience and explore their learning style. There is amazing curriculum and resources out there to choose from. Whether you want to keep your education faith based or want to have a cyber school format - this is your choice, your family's journey. # 6   No classroom

Instead of your child sitting in a classroom learning about their world and community, homeschoolers are out in it ! They are out learning in their community every day. Everything they do can be a learning experience from running errands to field trips. There are so many opportunities just waiting to be explored. # 5   More Social

The number one question a homeschool parent is asked is "How do they get socialization if you are home all day?" Well, we're not home all day! Homeschoolers are around people and peers of all ages; this is what makes them so well rounded. They relate well to adults and younger children because as families we learn and socialize together. # 4    Opportunities

This is something that new homeschool families need to know. There is so much out there today being offered to homeschoolers. You are not alone! Homeschool support groups and cooperatives, library programs, homeschool sports, bowling, roller skating, tours, field trips, park programs, homeschool orchestra & theater arts. Homeschooling has become a big business and a lot of companies offer exclusive learning opportunities just for us ! # 3   Work from Home

Some families have wanted to try homeschooling but because of their jobs, finances, or time just couldn't take the leap. Fortunately, in today's world some parents have realized that they can work from home and companies now offer more jobs with that option. This is a wonderful chance to try it and to find a good balance for your family. # 2   One on One

Classroom sizes have grown in recent years and the teacher/student ratio is shocking. Having your child working one on one with you or in a smaller group can have a huge impact on their focus and comprehension. You can cover a lot of material in a short amount of time which allows more time for other things. # 1 Memories

Our children are with us for such a short time. Every parent knows this time is precious and goes so fast. Having all of these homeschool memories you create together is an amazing bond that is priceless. You are giving your children the greatest gift of knowledge and love. Choosing this path is a personal one and hopefully worth it in the end.
